Privacy Policy
This policy explains what information the Bible Verses app (“the app”), its website scrollthebible.app (“the website”) and we handle, why, and the choices you have. The app is published by Parth Vaddoriya. Questions: [email protected].
The short version
- You don’t create an account, and the app doesn’t ask for your email, phone number or location. The website has an optional launch list; if you join it, we keep the email you enter.
- Your name, photo, notes, bookmarks, reading progress and Ask history stay on your iPhone and in your own private iCloud. We cannot read them.
- Questions you ask in “Ask the Bible”, and the verses you open study pages for, are sent to our server and to Google’s Gemini service so an answer can be written.
- We use Google Firebase for anonymous usage statistics and crash reports, and RevenueCat to manage subscriptions.
- We don’t show ads, and we don’t sell your information.
Information that stays with you
The following is stored on your device and, if you use iCloud, in your private iCloud database (Apple CloudKit), so it comes back when you reinstall the app or use another of your devices. It is protected by your Apple Account and is not accessible to us.
- The name and profile photo you choose to enter
- Notes, bookmarks, and saved stories, characters and themes
- Reading progress, your reading streak and daily goal
- Your Ask the Bible conversation history
- Settings such as translation, appearance, reminder time and widget choices
- Study and Apply to Life pages you have already opened
Daily verse reminders are scheduled on your device. They are local notifications; the reminder time is not sent to us.
Information sent to our server
Ask the Bible, Explain Easier, Deeper Study and Apply to Life
When you use these features, the app sends our server the question you typed (and earlier turns of that conversation, for follow-up questions) or the verse you opened. Our server passes this to Google’s Gemini API to write the response. Questions and the answers written for them are kept on our server, without any identifier that links them to you, so the same question can be answered faster next time. Please don’t include personal or sensitive information in your questions.
Device identifier
With each of these requests the app sends an identifier that Apple generates for our app on your device (the “identifier for vendor”). We use it only to limit how many requests one device can make per hour, to prevent abuse. It is stored with the time of the request. It does not identify you personally, and it changes if you delete and reinstall the app.
Feedback
If you send feedback from the Help screen, we receive your message, your email address if you choose to give one, the app version, your device model and iOS version, and the device identifier described above. It is emailed to us so we can read and reply.
Analytics and crash reports
The app uses Google Firebase:
- Firebase Analytics — which screens are opened and actions such as asking a question, adding a note or bookmark, sharing a verse, or viewing the subscription screen, together with general device information (model, iOS version, language, country). We also record whether the device has Premium and which plan. This is not linked to your name or email.
- Firebase Crashlytics — technical details of a crash, so we can fix it.
- Firebase Cloud Messaging — a push-notification token for your device.
The app does not use the advertising identifier (IDFA) and does not track you across other companies’ apps or websites.
Subscriptions
Purchases are made through your Apple Account; we never see your payment details. We use RevenueCat to check whether a subscription is active. RevenueCat receives an anonymous app user ID and your purchase history for this app (product, dates, trial and renewal status, price and country of the store).
Website and launch list
The website has an optional form for hearing when the app launches. If you fill it in, the email address you enter is stored in a Google Forms response and a Google Sheet that we control. We use it only to tell you about the launch of Bible Verses. We don’t sell it, and we don’t share it with anyone apart from Google, which stores it for us.
The launch email will be the only email we send you from this list. We will delete the list within 90 days after the launch. To be removed sooner, email us and we will delete your address.
When you visit the website, the services that deliver it receive standard technical information such as your IP address and browser type. These are Cloudflare (hosting, and scripts through cdnjs), Google Fonts and unpkg. Cloudflare also records basic visit statistics for us, such as page views and loading times; this doesn’t use cookies. The website has no ads. It stores one small note in your browser, for that visit only, so the opening animation isn’t repeated.
